Cardigan: Target | Dress as skirt: Ann Taylor Factory Store | Tights: Target | Flats: Payless | Lips: NARS Schiap

Let me tell you about this lipstick.

While Sarah and I were in Las Vegas, we encountered many Sephoras. At the one in Caesars Palace, Sarah tried on her first red lipstick, NARS Red Lizard. (It looked great on her.) And because I am nothing if not daring with my lip colours, I tried on NARS Schiap. And then I really liked it, so I tried to buy it, but they were out.

You see where this is going, right?

During the rest of the trip, I pined. I was obsessed. We checked another Sephora in San Francisco, but an employee notified us that Schiap had been sold out in stores for weeks and they had no idea when it would be restocked. (Noooooooo!) So I signed up for an in-stock email. And I got one last week while I was at work! Pep was restored to my step. I drove home, excitedly hopped on the Sephora website, and found my lipstick.

And it was already sold out.

Despondent, I checked eBay. I checked Ulta. I checked Nordstrom. Nary a stick to be found. So I signed up for the email again, and wished and waited for what felt like months but was really only days.

But finally...finally.

I got the email. Right before lunch, too, so I was able to leap onto a computer and order it as soon as I was on break! Five days later, it was in my hands. It smells like cracked pepper and it looks like how Kesha's music sounds. I looooove it. And so do my patrons--I was told today that my lipstick was a) striking, b) dynamic and c) splendid. Indeed.

Necklace: Hearst Castle | Top: J.Crew Factory | Skirt: JCPenney | Wedges: Shoe Carnival | Nails: China Glaze It's a Trap-eze! (oy)

The short days and long nights of winter are tricky for a style blogger who works until sundown and is generally too lazy to get up at the crack of dawn for photos. But it looks like I'm past the worst of it--I took these pictures at 6, and although they're grainy at full size, compressed to "medium" photos (as Flickr calls them), all is well. We've come to the light at the end of the tunnel, and it's called longer days.

Oh cold but happy day! Macmillan is going to start offering ebooks to public libraries for circulation! This is probably not that big a deal to most people, but it's huge in the digital book world. The only big publishers left to fall now are Penguin, Simon and Schuster, and Hachette. We're coming for you, publishers.

Ps. The picture below shows how I took the picture above.

Style Imitating Art: Young Corn

It is time for Style Imitating Art! Oh, I so missed doing this over the holidays. New year, same plan, more art! As a reminder, this week's inspiration was Young Corn by Grant Wood. I picked this piece because it looks a lot like the wineries my friend and I passed in California a few weeks ago.

First we have Jen of Librarian for Life Style, who used TWO pieces of inspiration to create her outfit! Now that's dedication.

Next is Rebekah of From the Mixed-Up Files, who is trying to decide whether to keep this sweater or not. Thoughts?

Noelle of Tilly's Notions always seems to look amazing, and this week is no exception. I love the spring green of her dress.

Pao of Project Minima is hanging out in the corn field. She's also rocking the Angelina leg!

My darling cocreator, Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, whose gorgeous outfit ended up being almost an exact inverse of my own! Great minds, amirite???

And me, of course. My full outfit post will be up later. Great job, y'all! I think this is one of my recent favourites :)

Hum the theme with me

I know frosted lipstick isn't really in anymore. It kind of went out with 2001. But whatever, I heard Jimmy Eat World on the radio today, so that makes it alright.

Back on the wagon! Seeing these pictures now makes me realise exactly how odd my hair looked today. What is happening on top of my head? There's a significant amount of fluff happening. And yet if you look at the side view, it still looks weirdly stringy. I don't know. There's no taming this beast.

Baby it's cold outside

Top: Anthropologie | Skirt: eShakti | Tights: Target | Boots: Target

If I look dour in that first picture, it's because it was freezing when I took these photos. And when I say freezing, I mean like 42. The south has turned me into a wimp. Tomorrow I will return to 30x30, and hopefully I'll finish it by the end of February. Yeah, well. We'll see how that goes.

Clothing across America

Fleece: Eddie Bauer Outlet | Jeans: Eddie Bauer Outlet | Flats: Toms

Here are the things I wore on my trip, from east to west! The outfit above was basically my day in, day out outfit. Jeans, flats/boots, shirt, fleece. That fleece is the best $25 I have ever spent.

Coat: JCPenney

What I wore at Graceland. Graceland, you guys.

Scarf: gift from parents | Sweater: J.Crew

Here I am at the Mississippi River. Shortly after this photo was taken, we crossed the bridge behind me and ended up in Arkansas.

Top: Anthropologie

Me at the Petrified Forest. I skipped a few days because I got horrible food poisoning in Little Rock and wasn't back to my old self until we left Flagstaff.

Again, living in that fleece. Also taken at the Petrified Forest.

This is what I wore on my hot date with THE GRAND CANYON.

Top: J.Crew | Jeans: Eddie Bauer Outlet

By the time we reached Lake Mead and Nevada, it was in the 60s! Love it.

Sweater: Ann Taylor

Las Vegas was fabulous and warm and awesome.

Cardigan: Target | Dress: JCPenney

I actually got to wear a DRESS to the Hoover Dam! Seriously, warm and awesome.

We hung out in a lot of bathrooms in Las Vegas. Fascinating places. This was at Caesars Palace.

Top: J.Crew Factory

California was a little chillier--50s--but in the sun on the top of a hill at the Hearst Castle, it felt too nice to wear my fleece.

But by the time we were halfway down the Pacific Coast Highway, fleece was BACK ON. It was cold, you guys. Real cold.

Yay me!

Cardigan: Target | Top: Macy's

Our final day of sightseeing in San Francisco involved Lombard Street, which I got to drive down. It was epic.

And then I came home, and I have spent the last week catching up with school (which started on Monday) and work (which I returned to on Tuesday). I returned to 64 emails at work and 20 at school and chipping away at all that has been SO FUN but I think I've got things together now. I'll do a recap post or two of my trip involving things I saw instead of things I wore, but for a more comprehensive and visual overview, I still recommend reading the blog we kept, Librarians in Transit. I've heard it's well worth the visit. The photos are supposed to be great. ;)
