Jehossee is 27 and I've had him for the last 7 of those, and known him for the last 15. It's insane to think that he was 12 when I met him, that I was 11, and now I'm 26 and he's still alive and really, for all intensive purposes, thriving. End of life care is not easy, ever, but it seems to be completely different for horses than for humans. It varies little from general equine care. More medicines and supplements for arthritis and laminitis and weight loss. Maybe a different feed with higher fat content that is easier to chew. Something with molasses. But for a Thoroughbred--for any horse, really--Jehossee has done really well. His quality of life and happiness level are both very high, and I'm so thankful. Because I'm a sucker for any guy with big brown eyes and a sense of humor.

Do you name your cars? We (me and my parents) do. At least most of them. My first car, which my dad still drives, is a white Oldsmobile named Molly. My grandfather gave her to me. My current car is named Pontius Prius, because I wanted to keep the Latin thread going from Prius to his first name.

The car between the two, however, didn't have a name. The Volvo, as it was simply called, was truly the best car I've ever had. I loved that car literally to death--we made it to 200,003 miles, but the point between trading my parents Molly for the Volvo and the day I said farewell were so amazing. We went everywhere--New Jersey, New Orleans, Savannah, all once, & Asheville, Charlotte, Columbia, and Virginia countless times. I clocked so many hours in that car, and it never failed until the transmission did.

Today I drive Pontius 12 miles each way to work, and I fill my tank once a week, and it costs $25. But the traction isn't the best. The pickup isn't perfect. There's nowhere to hide my purse. And at the end of the day, despite how much I enjoy driving Pontius, I always remember that sometimes the best horse truly is the one with no name.

you haven't seen my favourite wall in a while because it was painted over by a new company in front of the wall and I got all sad about it. when I was thinking about venues for today's photos, I thought well, a black wall would be better than greenery. (This doesn't seem like the kind of outfit that works with greenery.) So I pulled in the lot, and DO MINE EYES DECEIVE ME?! New graffiti on the wall! Ohmygosh, so happy. I danced around the parking lot and took my pictures and turned to leave and as I folded up my tripod, a creepy van rolled ever so slowly by the entrance to the parking lot.

A return

Top: J. Crew | Belt: Target | Skirt: Talbots | Heels: Urban Outfitters

Sorry for the unexpected hiatus. My remote was acting up, work was crazy, school was crazy, excuses excuses. I'm back, point being. I really missed taking outfit photos, oddly enough--it seems like the one time of day where I'm really just focusing on myself (literally and figuratively!) and not worrying about a patron, my parents, my horse, my homework, or anything like that. It's a zen moment. (By the way, I've started doing yoga. Yikes.)

My mom looks a lot shorter than me here, but she's actually an inch taller than I am. Just in case you were wondering.

I'm ready for some football

Necklaces: J.Crew Outlet and heirloom | Top: J.Crew Outlet | Belt: Target | Skirt: Talbots | Wedges: Payless

If there's one key piece of information you need to know about me, it's that I'm a librarian. (In training.) But if there's another piece of information you need to know about me, it's that I am a massive football fan. I love football. It's the sport. I was an Eagles fan before I was even born, and I've stuck with them through thick (the later McNabb years) and the thin (the 1990s) and the thinnest (I've gotten so much shit for liking a team that supports a dogfighter*). I love my birds, and I always will.

But I'd love them more if they won a damn Super Bowl. JUST ONE.

* I do not condone what Michael Vick did, not by a long shot. However, what's past is, in fact, past, and he paid sufficiently according to federal law. I believe wholeheartedly on judging art exclusively of the artist, and you are not simply the sum of your crimes, or your disability, or your job. Life is a lot more complicated than that, and I'm in no place to judge Vick's personal life--none of us are, really, especially now that his problems are well in the past.

Return this family to greatness

Tonight I watched J. Edgar with my mom (I'm heading up a discussion on it at work on Monday) and thankfully, she interjected some of the outlying information that I didn't know. For example, that the Lindburgh kidnapping is a real thing. Or that Director of the FBI Hoover and President Hoover are not the same person. I have learned so more in the last two hours than I learned in a decade at public school.

That's a lie. Only when it comes to 5th grade social studies.

You know it's a good style day when people mistake your outfit for a dress.
You know it's a bad blogging day when your remote doesn't work.
